DIY: Garden Markers

Like I have mentioned here, Mom and Dad have started the vegetable garden already.
garden bed
They've been doing great with it and are enjoying it.

To make me feel like I am part of it when we reap these vegetables when the time comes.

My contribution was these DIY: Garden Markers.

It is very easy and I did not spend a dime!

I used an old milk gallon.
Cut rectangles from it.  I used a business card to guide me on cutting my rectangles.

Started cutting it with a cutter then continued with scissors.  It was pretty easy to cut because it was soft plastic.
I made seven rectangles from the milk gallon.
And the milk gallon looked like this after cutting the rectangles.
Label the rectangles according to the vegetables that I my mom and dad have
planted.
Adhere those rectangular plastic markers to barbecue skewers.

And you have your own garden markers.

But there are a lot of other creative ways of making your own garden markers and these are my favorites.

Not just me but first for my husband, mom and dad and the kids too! ☺
And another thing to believe it or not {i should have titled this post as "believe or not" lol}
I did not know that strawberries just grow and spread across the ground.

I really thought that they grow from a tree....
How about you, did you do anything fun on Memorial Day?

Dress Up your Old Plant Pots

Do not throw your old plant pots away, paint it instead!
I like salvaging things like what I did with this baking tray.

These plant pots are no different, they look old and unattractive.
But what is really wrong with these pots?
Nothing.  They're just old and unattractive.

So why not dress these pots by spray painting it, right?
Who would have guessed lol!

Really, all of you guys know that the best thing to dress up something is to paint it.

I painted these pots upside down to skip the taping of the lip of the pots and not worry about over-spraying the insides of it.

And I did not care so much about the bottom too as it will not show when it is right side up.
Another thing that I did on these pots is put some stickers on it.
Just so to make it prettier...
this is some kind of a special message to the flowers that I am going to put inside these pots...

bloom
beautiful
grow
Hopefully that the flowers will feel how special these pots are and how special they are in my

There are many ways to dress up your old pots and here are my favorite ones that I found.

Backyard Fence Finally!

Yes! Backyard fence finally!
So glad all the work that was done before the actual installation of the fence helped speed up the process.  It only took them 2 days, nice.

We now have a little-bit of privacy and the neighbor's dogs can no longer bother my kids while they're out in the backyard playing.

I am my kids are so so happy that we now have our backyard fenced, and their little corner is their favorite part.
There are so many things that I want to do in our backyard now that is fenced.

Vegetable garden - which my mom and dad already started.
I'm thinking of beautiful flowers...lots of it...

Fruit Tree...

Shade Tree...

Patio set...

Fire pit...

Pond...

Pavers and steps...

and the whole nine yards...☺

please...please...let me win the lottery Lord....to turn my backyard into something like this♥

or this...
or maybe this...

It would be real awesome!

What about you, do you ever play lottery?
Or do you have a dream backyard that you have been wanting to have?

time really flies because today he is five♥

Five years ago The Mr. and I were blessed with this beautiful bundle of joy.
From then on...our world has changed♥
Being pregnant was truly the most beautiful feeling that I ever had.
But I was so sick that I did not only have morning sickness - I have the "all-day-and-night" sickness.
The Mr. was with me all the way...he gave me his love and support more than I needed...
It made the whole pregnancy a lot better...
I can still remember the swollen foot and legs massages*** that felt so good...

Then when I finally felt my little baby inside my belly...wow! that was an extraordinary feeling.
I wrote about that extraordinary feeling and put it in scrapbook for my son.
And when our little bundle of joy finally came out 5 years ago...
All the all-day-and-night-sickness was totally worth it...
When I first looked at him ♥
When I first held him ♥
When I first kissed him ♥
When I first hugged him ♥

He is a miracle in our life...

He is the sweetest little guy that I have.
He likes to say "i love you mom"...just makes my heart melt...
He loves to hug & kiss me all the time...

Happy 5th birthday to you Franz!
Your dad and I hope and pray for your good health.
We will try our very best to raise you as a good-loving-GOD-fearing person.

And I hope that you will still kiss and hug me even when you think you're too old for it...
because you will never be too old for it...♥

{Guest Post} Style your home YOUR way!

Styling your home is hard enough already but styling it YOUR way makes it even more challenging.

Here's Eva Stephen from Shop4Furniture giving tips how to style your home YOUR way.

I hope you will find this inspiring like I do...

"Hi all. This is Eva Stephen.
Today I am going to share some tips to style your home that reflects your style.
Thanks Rea for making me a part of your blog. Cheers. :)

Style your home YOUR way!

Do you look through home d├ęcor magazines and admire the pictures of the elegant and immaculate homes, but never really feel a sense of connection or desire for the interiors depicted? If so, maybe your home needs more of a personal touch to make it truly your own creation.

Spruce up the kitchen lavishly
If you are a homebody, constantly producing a stream of tasty dishes and delicious treats, then you definitely need a kitchen that speaks to your own preferences and skills. Equally, if cooking is not your forte, you may well be happy with a hot plate and a microwave just to cover the bare basics.
Image
Kitchen units can be designed to your personal choice, and the only limitation is how much you can afford to spend on a fully customised kitchen.

Customise your kitchen on a shoe-string
For those who are on a budget (which is just about all of us in this current economic climate) there are some hints and tips you can use to stamp your own brand on standardised fixtures and fittings. Transfers and stickers are an instant pick-me up for drab or plain cupboard doors. I am sure you’ll love the kitchen wall stickers range at Icon Wall Stickers.

You can use kitchen themed stickers or pictures, foodstuffs, vegetables and so on, but you can also allow yourself free licence and put up whimsical cartoon characters, fancy text letters or anything else that catches your eye.

A couple of buckets of paint can dramatically change a kitchen, and you can even try creating painted optical illusions on your kitchen walls if you feel daring!

Just remember, lighter colours open out a room or area, while darker ones draw it in and can make an already small space seem impossibly cramped. Light reflects better off lighter coloured walls, while darker walls may absorb some of the light making the kitchen a little bit gloomy.

Fill your living room wisely

Unless you can ask a carpenter to create the exact piece you have in your mind's eye, you may have to settle for a standard piece of furniture that can be adapted to your purposes. Have a clear idea of the effect and look that you are trying to create and take your time studying the furniture available on the market. Shop4furniture website has a fabulous range, including single chairs, two- and three-seaters, and even corner units; all of which can form the basis for a unique and individual look, without you having spent an absolute fortune on custom furniture.
Image

Once you have a good layout of furniture, you can begin to add ornaments, pictures and wall art, all of which should work seamlessly in the room, while retaining a fresh stand-alone charm. It is in the small touches that you can really work in the touches that will set your living room apart from those of other people, whether it is in the quirky adornment, the elegant soft furnishings or striking curtains and carpets – whatever theme you choose can be achieved and enhanced with a little careful planning when purchasing room accessories.

Make your bedroom a haven
The place where you are most vulnerable and comfortable is the perfect place to unleash your creative side. Whether you like butterflies and satin, or black and silver gothic skulls, you can style your bedroom entirely to your own tastes. Although if you share the room, it is probably tactful to ask for some input from the other party, and allow them to state their opinion on the furnishings!

Every room in the house can benefit from your imagination and creativity. You do not need to spend a lot of money to make beautiful items that reveal a little bit of the essential you, although you may need to spend some time thinking about the kind of impression you want to create, and how to achieve that with the materials and skills you have. You can even paint unusual and striking designs on an uncarpeted floor for a truly distinctive look! The important thing to remember is that it is your choice, and if you are happy, then that is all that matters!

Pre-Work for our Backyard Fence

So about a month ago I was in the process of scouting for a contractor to do our backyard fence.

But first let me tell you the reasons why I(we) wanted a backyard fence:

L We live in a community with houses nearby & almost attached to each other **exaggeration**
but here let me show you a photo of our backyard while my kids are playing in the slip & slide...
okay, now you know what I mean...☺

One of our neighbor's let their dogs loose once in a while and they do run to our backyard most often than not...idk why?

Freedom for my kids (4-yo & 2-yo) to play at the backyard without me worrying where they'd go other than our backyard....you-know-keeping-my-kids-in-and-everything-else(like the neighbor's dogs)-out-kind-of-thing.

and a little bit of privacy...

Okay, now it would really help you out all through the whole process if you do the following:

First - visit your local Assessor's Office to get a copy of your property limit.  This is to give you an idea where are the easements are located if it is in your property.  Also will give you the exact measurement of your entire property.

Second - ask your home-builder to have somebody locate your property pins.  This is an additional assurance of where exactly is your property line.
option: if your property does not have the property pins yet, surveyors can do that for you...
Third - call 811 - Know what's below.  Call before you dig.  To ensure that your utility lines are being marked & to avoid disruption on any of your utility services.
Fourth - find out from your homeowner's association, if you have one, as to what kind of fence are not allowed in your community.  This is to help you do the process of elimination on what type of fence that you can choose.

All of these services are free.

When you are done with all these.  Decide on what kind of fence would you like to be installed or maybe you want to do-it-yourself.

Hire a professional or DIY?
Between having a professional contractor to do it for us and diy-ing it was the very first decision that my husband and I had to make.

I initially thought that The Mr. & my father can diy it but since we have to have an equipment to dig the land so that posts can be buried and plus how so erratic The Mr.'s working schedule these past few months, so we decided to  get a professional to do it for us.
We chose to: hire a professional

What kind of fence do you want?
There are numerous types of fence that you can choose from.

Wood Fence - it is the most basic and the most affordable type of fence.  But it needs more maintenance than the other types of fence, such as staining the wood every two years to extend its life.  And if you are looking for a little bit of privacy from the neighbors then you can choose this type of fence.

Vinyl Fence - the very pretty vinyl is also an available type of fence that you may want to choose.  It looks so clean and is maintenance-free unlike the wood fence.  It also adds a greater resale value for your home.

Ornamental Fence - if you are not looking for privacy-type of fence & wants to show off your backyard but will mark your property lines then this type of fence is for you.

Chain link Fence - it is very cost effective but like ornamental fence, it does not give you the privacy that you may want from a fence.
In our community, we are not allowed to have chain link type of fence, so this was eliminated right away during our selection process.
We chose the: Wood Fence, because it meets our basic need & it's affordability.

Measurement?
Based on the property map that we got from the Assessor's Office & the property pins that was marked.  We decided how many feet we need on each sides and towards the back of our house and how high we want it.

Start calling professional contractors to do an estimate.
I only called three contractors to do an estimate for us, based on their reputation in the fence-building industry and the after-sale service.

Decide.
Between the three contractors that we chose to do an estimate for us.  We decided to go for the was the cheapest but has a fairly good reputation in the fence-building industry.

come back for the continuation of this backyard fencing proces....
