DIY: Bed Canopy for My Pretty Girl

So thrilled to share to you my DIY: Bed Canopy for my little girl using an unconventional material - hula hoop.  For a total cost of $1.50.

My daughter's hula hoop has been taken for granted in our playroom and I have  been thinking of buying a bed canopy for her bed but then then I thought I could actually use her hula hoop to do that.

Now, as I am writing this and searched in the www if my idea was original - so NOT.  But that's just how it is - I initially thought it was original but it wasn't.  The great news is you can search for a better tutorial out there aside from my post which is beneficial for y'all.

Anyway, here's how I made mine.

This is my daughter's hula hoop.

Break it so I can thread the sheer curtain panels around the hula hoop.

I already have these sheer curtains that I cannot use anymore because it's mistmached.  I just cut the back lining leaving the sheer part of it.

Draw the sheer curtain panels around the hula hoop then taped the hula hoop together.bed canopy for girls
Next tie a string onto the hula hoop, this will serve as a holder.  Make sure to tie it nice & tight so that your bed canopy will not look wonky.

Technically, your bed canopy is all done.  But I made some special touches to mine for my daughter.

I made some flower cut-outs using one of my daughter's blanket when she was still a baby and hot glued it to the white inner panel that I cut from the curtain.

The main thing here is to make sure that they're all aligned and that the white fabric will cover the string that holds the hula hoop.

Then I also glued some pearl beads that I bought from dollar store long time ago.

And as a final touch, I glued a lace flower with a blue bead in the middle then attach a pearl string to the back of it.

Then sew it around to the sheer curtain looking like this.

Finally The Mr. put in the ceiling hook which is the only thing that we bought in this project costing us $1.50.

He used a stud finder to find the stud and that's where he attached the ceiling hook.

And I hung my DIY: Bed Canopy!

And it did not take a while before my daughter jumps into her bed with canopy!

And I think she likes it...

One day, my daughter will appreciate how special this bed canopy is.

  1. Shut the front door! I WANT ONE, TOO! ;) It's simply gorgeous, shabby yet elegant. You did a fabulous job. I've always been a sucker for canopy beds.

    Lovely detailing, too.

    1. oh thank you meredith♥ you always make me smile with your sweet comments...

the good thing about this project is that if in the future we decide to change the draping to a matching material - it is easy...if you notice, my sheer curtains are not matched♥
I have been challenging myself to spend less to nothing with my projects lately...

ps: if you're going to try one, I would love to see a photo of it too
