Part 1-Garage Attack! Needs Some Lovin'

Since we moved to this new house in March this year - there are still a lot of unpacking and organizing that needs to be done.

Our garage as a whole is not so bad, because we can still park both mr. & mrs.'s cars inside the garage.

But if you will take a look at the shelving units ~ you will definitely have a garage attack!! eekk!!

As you can see, I actually tried to organize them ~ just to put them on the shelving unit was actually a lot of work!! :)

Anyway, let's stop "my garage is not soo bad" moment.
I need to come up with something, step up and do what this garage needs after all ~ some love!!!

So the plan is, this weekend a special garage make-over will happen....

And the big reveal will be next week!!

So meantime, do you have any suggestions on how to give my garage some loving?

Thanks for dropping by,
Smart Momma

  2. Baskets, baskets and baskets!! You need a lot of baskets for this project.

Sort your stuff then put them in the basket - easy as 1-2-3.

    1. thanks elaine, i might be utilizing what we already have at home so i don't have to spend a lot of money for the baskets...i know it is a very good organizing investment, i might buy some more but i need to shop first in my own home :)

      thanks for dropping by elaine,

  3. I am a Pinterest girl and have been doing the garage attack myself and got a lot of ideas from there. You can check out my pinned ideas here: http://pinterest.com/liv2learn/garage-extravaganza/. From looking at your shelves, you have a couple of categories that you can create - camping, car care, tools, etc. I would take everything down in the garage (time consuming, but SO worth it) and sort into your various categories. You can them see how much you have of each to determine the shelf space you need and know what you are going to donate

I agree with Elaine that baskets are a necessity for this type of project so try to find ones in colors that make you happy, fit the stuff you want to go in them and are (of course) budget friendly. Since you have the nice rack above, I would move the cooler up there if it is used infrequently or if used a lot, down on the ground next to the shelves. The ladder should go on a ladder rack, which are relatively inexpensive at Home Depot or Lowe's or you could do a DIY option. Hope this helps!

    1. hi michelle, i have heard a lot about pinterest but it never occured to me to actually be a pinterest person and hang out in there yet...but because of you, i might be doing that soon!!

i will definitely take your suggestion as to the categorizing - it's gonna be a lot of work but im sure it's going to be definitely worth it!

yeah i also agree with elaine, but i am going to shop my own home first and utilize what i have before shopping!

thank you so much for all your suggestions michelle!

  4. Hi friend!

I would start by emptying the shelves and categorizing, purging what you have. Then, take inventory and figure out storage needs. Large plastic crates/bins/baskets are great for garage shelves. I also love using hooks for hanging things and maximizing garage wall space.

    1. Hi Jen,

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I emptied out my shelving units over the weekend and purged some of our stuff that we have not used for a while.

I have not finished it yet ~ whew! it took longer than I thought it would be!!

Thanks for your suggestions, love your blog!
